Let’s Share Our Favorite Quotes

I used to think that I didn’t like quotes, but then at one point I realized I’m attracted to different ones than most people. I don’t often like common ones, especially common inspirational ones, so I keep an on-going list of quotes around. (It’s perfect, I like to collect things and make lists.)

I like to keep ones that stand out to me and resonate with me, obviously, and that’s usually through a sort of tongue-in-cheek humor, my beliefs or a specific emotional tone that I can’t quite put my finger on – maybe nostalgia.

And I want to share my favorites!

“But I stumbled into this argument unintentionally in the course of my speech, rather than because I planned it so.” – Aristides

“I have the simplest tastes. I am always satisfied with the best.” – Oscar Wilde

“It is absurd to divide people into good and bad. People are either charming or tedious.” – Oscar Wilde

“When you wake up in the morning, Pooh,” said Piglet at last, “what’s the first thing you say to yourself?”
“What’s for breakfast? said Pooh. “What do you say, Piglet?”
“I say, I wonder what’s going to happen exciting today?” said Piglet.
Pooh nodded thoughtfully.
“It’s the same thing,” he said. – Winnie the Pooh

“Hell is full of good wishes or desires.” – St. Bernard of Clairvaux

“Do not be troubled by Bernard’s saying that “Hell is full of good wishes or desires.” – St. Francis de Sales

“Do not abandon yourselves to despair. We are the Easter people and hallelujah is our song.” – Pope John Paul II

“I wish I could transport all my friends to my favorite hang out spots and we could stay up all night eating, drinking, laughing, taking photos, and wandering the streets without a destination.” – Sean Marc Lee

“Nostalgia is a seductive liar.” – George Wildman

“A day without sunshine is like, you know, night.” – Steve Martin

“People who count their chickens before they are hatched act very wisely because chickens run about so absurdly that it’s impossible to count them accurately.”
― Oscar Wilde

“Well, I can’t eat muffins in an agitated manner. The butter would probably get on my cuffs.”

As you can see, I like Oscar Wilde quotes, haha.

I also love quotes from Mean Girls, Rent and A Very Potter Musical, but that will have to be for another day. 😉

Around the Internet

Hey guys! Here are links for this week!

10 Psychological States You’ve Never Heard Of is a pretty interesting article. I find intense emotions pretty interesting.

• Well, this about sums up how I feel when I am trying to figure out How to Fold Fitted Sheets.

History’s most iconic photos in color. Do you ever get the sense that you can tell what colors are actually in a black and white photo? Like, I feel like I can tell what color clothing someone is wearing, even if I can’t see it. I kind of want to test this out somehow!

• I, Lauren Jones, do solemnly swear to read the book before I see the movie whenever humanly possible. Take the pledge at ReadIt1st.

• This is my favorite song! This is a collection of Youtube versions of Somebody That I Used to Know put together by Gotye.

Babysitters Club Books!

There is a free bookstore in Baltimore called The Book Thing. They make the money to cover expenses by picking out specific books and selling them online. Everything else is sorted out and free to take, as many as you want. Well, actually the site says you’re limited to 150,000. 😉 I’m thinking of taking that challenge.

Sunday, we dropped off a few bags for donations and brought home a bunch in return. And now I am the proud owner of 17 Babysitters Club books! haha! I used to have them all as a kid, but I have no idea what ever happened to them. I got them via one of those mail club thingies.

And here are all the other books I got. The two photography books are kind of a sociological look at photography, one having a more analytical bend than the other – sounds like they were written just for me. :D.

Believe it or not, I have never read an Anne of Green Gables book, so I guess I will have to change that. I dunno, I wasn’t a very dreamy child haha. I preferred the BSC. Anyway, I know we have the first one though and a few more, there might be duplicates, but they’re packed away right now so I’m not sure.

That Hippo one.. it has weird advice in it. I haven’t really gotten to look through it yet. Expect more about that.

And I’m thinking some future posts on what’s in that Encyclopedia of Fashion, yes?

Around the Internet

Here’s my “little bit of everything” I’ve found around the internet this week:

    • NPR’s 100 Best-Ever Teen Novels. There are some great books on here – I’ve read 28 of them and I’ve started and own a few more than that.

I’ve read the usual Harry Potter and Hunger Games, but I’m really excited to see so much John Green on here. I loved Paper Towns!

And I love the Vampire Academy series! (And the spin-off Bloodlines.)

I think I’m going to try to read them all. Anyone with me?

You can go see everything I’ve read since 2006.

David’s Tea! Lots of yummy looking tea and uhh.. tea stuff, I’m going to have to make an order soon, I’m thinking something from the tea samplers.

    • This is insane: Man Sentenced to 30 Days for catching rain water on his own property.

20 Alcoholic Beverages Inspired by the Harry Potter Series. I’m a Gryffindor, and I approve of my drinks, they’re right up my alley, actually. I would totally do the Cinnamon Aftershock and Goldschläger shot. 😉

    • And finally, this dog is so cool. Stinky Puppy is terrified of water. (Seriously, what kind of dog doesn’t like to swim?!)

Postcard: Rural Pennsylvania

This week’s postcard is from my home state, PA! It kind of sums of what I think of when I think of home.

Pennsylvania
A tranquil rural setting with golden fields nestled among rolling hills. This is the Pennsylvania countryside. As was done a century ago, horses still pull machinery up and down the fields of many a Pennsylvanian farm.

On cooking..

There is an ongoing theme in our house – that I can’t teach my poor husband how to cook because I don’t actually know how I do it, I just do it. If he asks me a question, I have to come and do it myself because I can’t answer it.

So, continuing on our theme, today I was looking for Italian seasoning on Amazon and out of curiosity, I went to read the spices that are in it.

And, they happen to be the exact spices that I always use when I am out of Italian seasoning in order to get the same flavor.

And I know that I’ve never read them before and I have no recollection of ever being taught them. If you had asked me if I had them correct, I would have said yes. I just KNOW.

My poor husband is shocked though.

I don’t know what it is, but I just sort of know how to cook – I know how to create flavors and I can do comfort food (southern, Hungarian and PA Dutch..) I don’t really do recipes. It just runs in my family – my dad was an amazing cook. It’s the Hungarian in me. 😀

Stinky Puppy’s 3rd Birthday

Stinky Puppy’s birthday was June 9th, but I never got a chance to write about it. I can’t believe my puppy is three already. I miss when she was a puppy even though she was a horrible little puppy. We got her like a million cheap toys.. most of which were torn up by the end of that day.

She’s laying on the couch snoring right now.

We had to give her a bath last night because she uhh.. lived up to her nickname. She rolled in something and smelled absolutely horrible. I also had to cut off some of her fur around her ears where it had got matted. She looks really funny now, actually.. really short ears.

I don’t know if I ever told this or not, but her real name is Molly. I gave her the name Stinky Puppy because: 1. I thought it was cute 2. she was/is a stinker 3. she has a skunk stripe and it took up most of her body when she was a puppy. I’m actually not even sure if some people realize she has a real name, haha.
