Forest Fancies Pyrex

I am now officially a collector of vintage Pyrex! Yes, me and everyone else who has a similar blog to mine! Haha, I don’t mind though, if I didn’t see other people talking about them constantly, I would have never realized that they’re very pretty and they’re exactly my sort of thing.

I have been thrifting for them for awhile and have never seen any anywhere (other than Etsy and Ebay) and then all of a sudden someone offers these nesting mixing bowls on Freecycle! Um, yes! Zero dollars!

This pattern is called Forest Fancies which I learned from this awesome website called Pyrex Love, which you should check out. Unless, you’re my husband who has pretty much solidly made fun of me since getting these. “I guess anything can be found being collected on the internet”, says the geek who has all sorts of interests revolving around elves and trolls. At least mine are pretty and useful, haha!

I also collect campfire and woodland creature themed items, vintage thermoses, postcards and instant photos. And, well, anything vintage that’s cute and that I want to use or for decor, like my vintage typewriter and sewing machine. What kind of things do you collect?

Postcard Thursday

Southern Pines, N.C.
The Mid-South Resort

The third hole of the Pine Needles Lodges and Country Club Course.

My mom was from the Southern Pines area. Her father, my grandfather, Bruce Mashburn actually helped build golf courses, though not this one. But, there is a famous one in the Dominican Republic called The Teeth of the Dog that he helped build. He’s mentioned in the book Bury Me in a Pot Bunker, which I have a copy of, haha!

Versatile Blogger Award

Aww, thank you to Brooke Ann Dove and Kamika Kraftz and Chrissy in America for awarding me the Versatile Blogger Award. I can’t believe I got it three times! I like having the excuse to share more fun blogs, but, I’m only doing this once, haha.

To accept the Versatile Blogger Award the rules are:

1. Thank and link back to who gave you the award.
2. Share 7 things about yourself.
3. Pass it along to 7 blogs you’ve recently discovered and enjoy.
4. Leave your recipients a note, telling them about the award.

7 Things

1. I’m a Catholic convert, from Baptist to Catholic – you don’t usually see someone go that direction. 🙂
2. I met my husband on the internet. This actually led to rumors that I: met a strange man online, ran across the country to run away from home, and “shacked up” with him. Truth is, we met online, then in real life. We had a long distance relationship for over a year, visiting back & forth many times. We got engaged. Then I moved across the country while he finished school. We didn’t even live together. Then we got married and we’ve been married for three years. Good story, haha!
3. I’ve been known to wear flip-flops all year around, even in the snow!
4. I’m from Pennsylvania & I love it & miss it! I think it’s the best state!
5. I wish I was a librarian.
6. I’ve never baked a cake.
7. My mama was a southerner and my dad is a Yankee. 😉 I just barely made north of the Mason-Dixon line by 15 miles.

7 blogs I’ve recently discovered & enjoyed

1. Erban
2. { bug miscellany }
3. susannahbean
4. Tea & Chickadees
5. talk2thetrees
6. A Giraffe in a Scarf
7. The House of Hearts

Beef stew

We’re having beef stew for dinner. Who’s coming over? Yes, that’s a stock pot and yes, there are only two of us. So, as I said, who’s coming over?

I am using this recipe, but I’ve changed a lot of it – no bacon, turnips, mushrooms or peas, because I’ve never heard of any of those things in beef stew. That’s just nonsense, yeesh, haha. I was basically just looking for something to show me how to make it because I’ve never made it before. I also feel like I’m cheating because I used store bought beef broth – I’ve never done that before either, I usually do the broth myself.

It’s almost done and so far it smells and tastes great, so here’s hoping..

Pumpkin Patch Pics

Saturday we went to a pumpkin patch at Larriland Farm and it was the very first time I have ever been to one! We got there a bit late and ended up running out of time, so I didn’t get to check out the barn where there were other fruits and veggies. We got three pumpkins, one for carving and two other smaller ones for our porch.

We did get to pick apples, and the only time I have ever done that was when my mom and I would pick crab apples and eat them right off the trees along the railroad tracks near our house growing up. We ended up with 20 pounds of them. I guess better learn how to make apple pie and apple butter and apple jelly..

Dreams: It’s eerily quiet in here

I usually dream about boring things, like daily things, the past or future things I’m expecting, but usually twisted, with people swapping out halfway or rooms changing around. They’re usually realistic, but off. I very rarely dream about something created, fictional or fantasy, something new. When this happens it’s a welcome, albeit overwhelming thing. Mostly, my subconscious creativity surprises me. I wouldn’t necessarily call this one a nightmare, but I’m still feeling it hours later.

Last night I was on a huge ship or a boat or a submarine that ended up trapped in Antarctica, under tons and tons of ice. We were living under there, waiting to be rescued. We had food, supplies and electricity. We had a working radio, because I remember hearing on the news that our expedition of sorts went missing. We all reacted by yelling at the radio. We couldn’t contact anyone and no one knew where we were, let alone how to rescue us. We all wished we could at least tell our family that we were alive, but we couldn’t. We had been there awhile, because we were comfortable.

Then one day, two of my friends went exploring and I decided to tag along. We found a door that opened out into a long passage. It was sitting under a tube of sorts that would normally blow out air or rotate a fan if it had access to the air or moving water. It was, of course, typically unmoving. This time we noticed it moving. So, we crawled into the passage and we came out of the other end, in an.. airport. (An airport, by the way, that reoccurs in my dreams, but doesn’t exist in real life, [as far as I know]).

My friends are enjoying the freedom and I am thinking “why in the world are we not telling anyone that we are free? Or that the rest of us are trapped? Why aren’t we getting help?” And, we never do. I have no idea why I don’t or why they don’t, but I am left with the sensation that it would have been pointless. Who would have believed us? Who would believe that we were in the lost expedition and that this expedition, trapped under ice, assumingly in Antarctica, was under this particular airport?

After our little adventure, we went back into the passageway and back into the ship. I don’t recall anything directly after that, but at some point we returned to the door, hoping to show others our escape. But, when we returned, the tube with the fan had stopped moving, again. I heard my friend yell (who at this point I think was me and I was watching myself).

“No! It moved! The ship sank further down!” I said.

Then I woke up.

Picture Frame Wall

I finally decorated the area above my sewing machine. I was waiting for a few more picture frames and I ended up getting a whole box from Freecycle, so I was finally able to start it. I might keep adding more. And I painted the painting on the table.

Oh! And that’s one of the extra chairs from the kitchen table. It has six chairs but we’re only using three in the kitchen. They go with everything and make everything better!

And, I just realized I never took a picture of this machine so now you’ll get to see it. It is a vintage Singer model 503 Slant-o-matic, also called the “Rocketeer”. I got it and the sewing table from Craigslist for a pretty good price and table is full of goodies too, all the original everything, plus all kinds of other sewing goodies.
