Bamboo Ink Sketch

Wanna see my horrid attempt at sketching using a bamboo dip pen?? Why, of course you do!!

This homemade pen was in with some other things I received and I wanted to try it out. Let’s just say it’s impossible, haha! And messy! You should see how many globs of ink there are in the picture (and how many I had to clean up). I decided to color it in with my fancy colored pencils and it’s kinda almost cute now, right? haha

Quick Tips: Catalog Pages

  • You can use pretty old magazine or catalog pages to decorate your snail mail. Cut out and glue or tape (washi tape!) parts of the pages to decorate the paper or the envelope. On lighter pages, use the entire sheet as stationery or a notecard and write your letter right on them. Or use another page to create the envelope.
  • If you take a regular envelope of your choice and pull it apart, you have an excellent template for your created envelopes.

There is a quick, cute tutorial on making envelopes at The Pink Couch. She uses vintage papers, but you can use magazine pages or anything you want.

  • My two favorite free catalogs are Free People and Toast.

Toast is in the UK but they will send to the US. You need to order each season though, you aren’t subscribed like you would be for a typical catalog. They have three catalogs – men, women and home. Their pages are amazing – absolutely beautiful, full spreads and they have a fantastic texture (and a lot of beautiful things to drool over, of course).

Happy Friday!

Yo! If you haven’t checked out my project yet, now is a good time to head over to Send Me An Instant Photo. I posted a new photo yesterday. I have two more ready to post over the next week. You can also follow the project on Facebook and Twitter.

And if you’re feeling really super nice, you could go to your blog and spread the word about it! Tell ya what, this isn’t much, but if you spread the word by writing a blog post about this project and tell me about it (link me!!), I’ll send you a little something in the mail. 🙂

And another self-promotion.. If anyone is interested, I sell mark. makeup and beauty products. mark. is a line by Avon and geared toward a bit of a younger audience. I like the stuff better, so that’s what I sell. 😉

You can shop through my e-boutique or go directly to the mark. shopping page. My name should be in the upper left hand corner of the page.

You can also follow my Facebook page to get updates, deals and in the future hopefully giveaways and fun stuff! (Ya know, if anyone ever buys from me. This is where everyone says “aww” and buys stuff out of pity, k?)

Oh, Lauren

And just one more little self-promotion, really, haha. I created a Facebook page for this blog! I feel kinda weird doing that since I don’t have an Etsy shop (it seems most people who have FB pages have an Etsy) but I intend to do so in the future (even though it will be a different name.. hmm.) But, like, you should come and be my friend there. Any thoughts? Am I lame? (I already know I am!)

Postcard Thursday

This one is from 1978, from my aunt to my grandma. I just chose this one randomly from my collection, but just yesterday, husband and I were talking about how it would be neat to learn to can veggies.

Bethlehem Baptist Church
Roanoke Rapids, N.C.

Aug. 6, 1978
Dear Margie,

How goes all? Beatiful country church here. I kept nursery today. Froze peas. Canned Tomatoes. How did your peas turn out? I hope you ate the watermelon.

Love,
Sister

Every Thursday I feature a postcard from my postcard collection. Check it out.

Veggie Pitas

I “created” these last week and husband and I liked them a lot. You can, of course, pretty much make them however you want with whatever you have around the house, but I think you should try it this way first. 🙂

Ingredients: Wheat pita pockets, veggies, guacamole, feta cheese, seasonings

First toast the pita pockets in a grill pan until they are crispy, but not too much or else they’ll break. Then shove as many veggies as you can in there (yes, these all fit!)

  • spinach
  • tomato
  • avocado
  • cucumbers
  • green peppers
  • mushrooms
  • black olives

Next spread guacamole on top and cover with feta cheese. (Yeah, I know, I used a ton and it was delicious.) Finally, sprinkle with salt, pepper, basil and greek seasoning.

I think the combo of the guacamole & feta cheese on top with the pita bread being grilled really made it. Try this out and let me know what you think!

Snail Mail Monday

I won a giveaway at Vintage Love & Photographs so I’d thought I’d share all the goodies! She is my penpal, so I already know about her awesome mail, but this stuff is pretty awesome-er. haha

Look at all this awesome stuff! There are notecards, stationery, those cute black & white envelopes, stickers and some scrapbooking things (that I will probably use for art journaling or mailing!) I really like it all, especially the Alice in Wonderland notecard and the Little Buddha tea notecard.

Postcard Thursday

I was seven when I got this postcard from my Daddy!

San Diego, Coronado Bay Bridge and Golf Course

Hi, Hi again Lauren,

Here I am again in San Diego. It’s still nice here. I’m going to Mexico today just to look around. I’m not doing much else here except relaxing. See you next week maybe.

Love
Daddy’O
