home tour: books!

We put up all of our 800-ish books on IKEA shelves in our office. They’re organized by color, which wasn’t actually all that hard and was kind of fun!

I wanted them downstairs in the second living room, originally, but we have baseboard heaters lining the entire long wall. (Seriously, who does that?) I don’t think we’re allowed to buy anymore books because this is it for space, ha.

I want to put a large vintage globe up on the top of the shelf, but right now there are some old film containers up there, and a sail boat.

And I figure everyone wants to see some titles..

Don’t worry, the ones on the top are just my husband’s Star Wars books, therefore not interesting at all.

pics from this weekend

My dad’s sisters all came out for a visit this weekend and I have some cute pictures. 🙂 My husband took them and I did the editing.

coral nail polish

I painted my nails a sort of coral/red-orangey color.

This is “meet me at sunset” by essie, after one coat, goes on very easily. I think it looks a bit more red in real life, the first picture is a bit more accurate.

I am really starting to love coral, does anyone have any recommendations for coral nail polish? (Or lipstick – I just bought Revlon’s “Kiss Me Coral” which is actually pretty bright like this.) I love the nail polish, but in lipstick, I’d like something more peachy and less red-orange, I think, but anything labeled “peach” doesn’t quite look right to me.

Also, Happy Friday! Any plans this weekend? I’m going to my dad’s probably tomorrow.

Postcard: Greenville, SC

Yay, postcard Thursday is back!

Downtown Greenville, South Carolina
The newly remodeled main street of the industrial center of the Piedmont, Greenville stands on the hills below the falls of the Reedy River. The county is a part of the old Cherokee lands that were deeded to South Carolina in 1777 and named in honor of Gen. Nathaniel Greene of Revolutionary fame or an early settler, Isaac Green.

Dear Ronnie (?), Margie and Margaret,

I’ve enjoyed being here with Doris Jean and her family. She will have her operation tomorrow morning.
Will see you over the week-end!

♥ Doris

Check out the rest of my Postcard Project.

Anniversary dinner

We went out for our anniversary to a sushi place called Sushi Sono in Columbia, MD last Friday. I had a few things I’ve never had before, like raw scallops and roe – but large eggs in a roll (I’ve had the small ones before). The best part was the tempura ice cream, so amazing!

We dressed up so I wanted to make sure I got one nice picture and after about a million bad ones, I think we managed, lol.

Clearly, we’re out of control.

I kinda really like this pic of me even though it’s all blurry.

quintessential husband across the table picture.. haha.

Joplin Tornado

For those who don’t know, I lived in Joplin for four years and moved back east two years ago. My husband, Sam is from there and he has family there.

Sam’s family is all alive and safe. Sam’s parents house is fine, just debris in their yard. They were on the very edge of the the tornado.

However, my brother in law and their family lost their home. He and his wife were home when it hit. They had the choice of hiding in one of two closets and they ended up picking the one that didn’t get some kind of plywood rammed through the door.

Their daughter was on her way home from attending graduation and huddled in a walk-in cooler at a gas station. The gas station is gone, the cooler is the only thing remaining.

There is a video (mainly audio) going around of a first person account from a Fastrip gas station, it’s been on CNN. She and her boyfriend were two of the 20-ish people in there. It’s very intense, so just a warning if you decide to watch it.

Happy Anniversary to Me!

Today is our 4th anniversary! My husband, Sam, and I were married in Missouri in 2007 at a bed and breakfast.

We first met online, on a small blogging website at the end of 2002/beginning of 2003. We met and got together late 2003, when I was 20 and he was 19. I’m 28 now. 🙂 I can’t believe we’ve been together for our entire adult lives! Tomorrow is our engagement anniversary (7 years).

These are pictures through the years! (Or better known as “the various hairstyles [or glasses] of Lauren” haha!)

This one is from today. 🙂

Wedding pics!

right behind the trees

Yesterday we went to *our* beach for awhile – it’s the first time the water was actually tolerable, but I didn’t have my swim suit on.

So, behind this big clump of trees somewhere is one of Pat Sajak’s two houses! How cool is that? We live right across the river from him. I was standing right in the sand in this pic.

kitty

I think I tend to neglect my kitty in pictures because my dog is still *new* so here is my kitty. She is Her Imperial Highness Grand Duchess Anastasia Nickolaevna Romanova of Russia. We call her Ana or cat, haha. She is about four years old. She’s a stray that was hanging around our porch for a long time and we finally stole her. She is actually a boy.

magazines

So, I might possibly maybe just slightly be obsessed with magazines lately. Just maybe. Like, as in, these are all from recently.

  • Cabinet – literature
  • ReadyMade
  • Real Simple
  • Filter – music
  • Dwell
  • Allure
  • Whole Living – this is better than i thought it would be
  • Marie Claire – my favorite of the fashion mags
  • Zoetrope – literature, actually my husband’s
  • Elle – second fave of the fashion mags
  • Fresh Home
  • Interview – never heard of this one before but i love the pictures
  • American Craft – meh
  • And yes, there is a Farmers’ Almanac there too.

I’m subscribed to Dwell, ReadyMade, Marie Claire and Allure. My next subscription purchases are going to be between Nylon, Atomic Ranch, Bookmarks & Bust. [And for the non-visual – Magnificat & Reason] I have a list of dream magazines haha, but I can’t justify paying the huge amount for them – Frankie, Anthology, UPPERCASE, Selvedge, Lula.

What are you subscribed to or just like to grab to read?
