Lately I’ve been into a lot of indie stuff, but my favorite music is the older stuff. Most of my life I’ve been a classic & southern rock fan. My all time favorites are ballads with a blues or soul sound. [A little less jazz-pop, a little more blues-rock, please!]
Presence of the Lord – Eric Clapton
You Really Got a Hold On Me – Smokey Robinson & the Miracles
There is a scene in Roseanne (one of the best shows ever) where Bonnie Bramlett (Delaney & Bonnie – great soul group) sings this & it’s one of my favorite scenes. I know I’ve posted it before, but I’m going to post it again.
A Song for You – originally Leon Russell, the most known version is Donny Hathaway. Also done by Willie Nelson, Michael Buble (ew), Christina Aguilera, The Carpenters.. My favorites are the Leon Russell and Ray Charles versions.
Ain’t No Sunshine – Bill Withers
Simple Man – Lynyrd Skynyrd
The Chain – Fleetwood Mac – you can look this one up if you don’t know it, but I want to share a much lesser known version. Scarlett Pomers (she was on Reba) & Jak Paris – It’s an amazing cover. This song is more rock/folk even (at least the original), but it makes the list.
Anyone have anything to add to this list? Anyone else in their 20s actually heard of these songs or am I just too old for my age? haha!
