Review: Nioi lip butters

You might be able to see in Snail Mail Monday that I received “The Lindsay” 4-pack of lip butters as a gift. They are from the Etsy shop, Nioi.

Opening the package, I found that no alien monsters burst out to eat me, which is a good start.

Included in this pack are four different flavors of “lip butter”: Asian Pear, Sugared Strawberries, Gummy Bears and Coconut.

These are described as “lip butters” and I would have to agree with the name. They are not waxy like Chapstick, nor are they the same texture as other lip balms. They are soft and creamy. However, they aren’t greasy like butter, and unlike that amazingly delicious spreadable butter with canola oil in it, I wouldn’t recommend sticking your finger in it and eating it.

The scent is wonderful – strong when you smell it but subtle on your lips. I think these might be my new go-to lip balms butters. My favorite is the Gummy Bears which is really surprising because I generally don’t like candy flavors, finding them too sweet or overbearing; but this one is not, it’s fantastic.

It does not, however, taste anything like bears.

Also included in the package was a free sample of her Island Mint soap, which I don’t see in her Etsy shop. Now, I want to like handmade soap but I have a hateful relationship with glycerin, which seems to be in all the ones I come across. Like, one time I used a handmade soap with glycerin in it and I looked like something.. umm.. bright and painful and red.. for days. But, her soaps don’t have glycerin in it so you can completely ignore this part of the review.

This soap smells great – strong flavored scent, with very little soap smell, which I love. However, the lingering scent is soapy and a bit strong for my personal taste. It also lasts for hours. (Which is good or bad depending on your preference; I’m sensitive to pretty much any soap smell.) As far as soap goes, it seems to work as, well, soap, which I assume is what she is going for. It hasn’t dried out my sensitive skin yet, either.

I am definitely going to order more from her. She has many different flavored soaps, other themed packs and individual packs of lip butters, and soy candles. (She also has a blog.) However I do fear that I might eat everything in the shop if I do.

Postcard Thursday

I have a fun one this week – at least I think it is!

I went to Sea World with my cousins when we were little and obviously I wrote out this postcard to bring home to my mom. I guess it was going to be sent and then wasn’t. The date on the postcard is 1989.

Mommy I missed you so much
I saw shamu, seals, otters.
I saw many nice things

Birthday aftermath

Yesterday was a pretty great day! Some horrible problems in my life seemed to clear up right in time for my birthday which made it much better. I had a lot of birthday wishes (thanks, Facebook! haha) and phone calls and love and laughing.

My husband brought flowers home for me. He says these are spider mums. (no I have no idea what they are – he’s the girl, gosh.) They’re really pretty though and they might have become my new favorite flower, well, at least tied with daisies.

He also cooked dinner for me, which was pretty awesome because he’s never really cooked before. It turned out fantastic. We had pan grilled salmon, pesto linguini & roasted tomatoes and a salad with vinegar and oil dressing, and Pinot Grigio, recipe from Art of Manliness.

For dessert, we had kahlua ice cream pie from the Mexican restaurant, On the Border. We went there a few weeks ago and asked if you can get the single slices in an entire cake and they made it happen, haha! And, now I am the proud owner of this from Urban Outfitters:

I’ve been eyeing it up forever and it sounds fantastic for a portable record player. And to go with it..

1. The Shins: Chutes Too Narrow
2. The Weepies: Be My Thrill
3. The Black Keys: Magic Potion
4. Kings of Leon: Only By The Night

I also got Beauty and the Beast on DVD, because you know, it’s out of the vault. 🙂 I was so spoiled and I love it all and I know I have some things coming from my two closest friends so that is way exciting too. Great day!

Blog redo

Happy Friday! I redid my blog, so if you’re in a reader, come have a look and let me know what you think. My husband coded the WordPress theme and I did the design work. I’m really proud of it! I think there is still a little bit of tweaking to do, though.

I also want to share my husband’s new blog. He is going to be sharing more of his creative side, which I’m really excited about. (Isn’t he such a copy cat?) I think he plans on including a little bit of everything, including writing, sketching and maybe even some music recordings. (Remember the instrument list from a few entries back? He plays the violin, acoustic and electric guitars.) I’m excited to be able to read a blog from him again that isn’t all boring software engineering, hehe. Anyway, go check it out!
