5 Question Friday

1. If you could go back to college would you change your major? Or, if you were to go to college right now…what major would you choose?

Yep. i was first an el ed major & then I switched to poli sci with a minor in philosophy. before i left school for money reasons, i was going to change again to sociology. i would love to keep the philosophy if i had room for it, but i probably wouldn’t. right now I would do a mix of anthropology, art & photography.

2. What do you love most about your home?

i love our back deck.. lol i’d love a lot more if i could figure out how to decorate, but i’m clueless.

3. What types of books do you like to read (if you like to read at all)?

literary fiction is my favorite. very occasionally chick-lit, beverly lewis or john grisham. and lots of non-fiction in the areas of politics, philosophy, catholicism, sociology/anthropology, art/photography & math. i have my book list from the last four years, though not updated & i don’t really read christian fiction anymore & most of the non-fiction i read doesn’t end up on the list since i don’t typically read them to finish them. (i’m thinking about starting to add them anyway though!)

4. What is the grossest thing you’ve ever eaten?

hmm. to me or to someone else? lol i don’t find most foods to be gross. but i’ve had pigs feet which i didn’t care for & chicken feet which i kinda liked. scrapple is alright, but i wanna try it again. i love raw hamburger (with garlic salt!). honestly, i think tofu is the grossest. i love all seafood, liver/gizzards/hearts, brussel sprouts.. the standards most people don’t like.

actually, one time, someone made me up one of those odd things where you mix lots of stuff together & dare someone to eat it. mine had in tobasco sauce & toothpaste, among other things i don’t remember & i ate it. it was pretty gross. lol

if you’ve seen bizarre foods, you should know that there is very little, if anything, that i would not try from that show. i’m pretty sure my only criteria is that it should really be dead, unless of course it looks dead & no one tells me. *shrug*

5. If you HAD to be a character on a TV show, whom would you be?
hmm, sue sylvester from glee. daniel jackson from stargate sg-1? hyde from that 70s show? darlene from roseanne? oh, i know!! sheldon from big bang theory. haha, i kinda relate to him. 😛

sewing machine & coin purse

i found this old sewing machine when i went up to PA. i haven’t figured out how to thread it yet, though i did find something last night that might help, but i haven’t tried it yet. as far as i can tell though, it’s going to work and the case was ick but the machine looks great. it was my mom’s, but i have no idea where it initially came from – don’t know if it was in the family or anything. it’s a sears & roebuck commander, model 605.

and this past weekend, we went to a few yard sales and i got this machine for $15. i’ve never owned a sewing machine before, i don’t know how to use them (we learned in school but i don’t remember at all) and really, i don’t know how to sew at all. but, i decided it’s time to learn & so today i figured out how to thread it & i used it!

i had gotten some small squares of fabric for art journaling at walmart so i decided i’d cut out a chunk and make it into a little coin purse/wallet thingy. and i have a million buttons, so..

i have NO idea what i’m doing! lol i didn’t measure anything, i didn’t cut straight, the fabric is super thin & amazingly i didn’t break the machine! but hey, it was fun!

down to my really bad hand stitching! haha! [and seriously, i was trying HARD here!! lol]

rva summer camp + dishes

Yay!! I’m an official..

six weeks of craftiness.. i can’t wait til it starts!! [go purchase a spot in the class if you haven’t already!]

also..

so, i said that i went up to PA & it was like thrifting. well, here are all the dishes i got. sorry for the crap pictures.. i was in a hurry to put them all away.

the thing is, none of these are really ones i would choose, but after cleaning them up real well, i decided that they’re kinda cute and we need dishes. 🙂 i like that the fruit ones are more blue-ish than green, that helps them look cuter to me.

these were my fave dishes growing up

i decided this is old lady, but acceptable to like anyway.

this one is great.. you can’t use it for food – there is a warning stamped on the bottom that says it can poison the food. i’m going to use this one and the next plate for my craft area [that doesn’t actually really exist at the moment]. and these two are my favorites. it’s funny how much my tastes have changed, because not even a few years ago, i would have hated these and liked the other ones better.

sketch attempts + bonus cow story

stinky puppy saw her first cows this weekend! husband and i went up to PA to visit & go through old stuff. we were inside when we heard her squeaking outside & thought there was something wrong, so we all went out & saw one of the cows come out toward the fence in the backyard.

so, we took her out to the backyard, and let her visit the cows. she was on the other side of an electric fence from them and i think she was trying to herd them from there, like the aussie shepherd she is. the first lonely cow looked really mad & as she kept barking and barking at them, more cows came out, until finally there was a line of 6-7 cows just starting her down. mission accomplished, right? i mean, she did get them in all one spot. 😉

going up this weekend was kind of like thrift shopping. i found a lot of fun goodies, unfortunately you’ll have to wait until another post. but, i do have some silly attempts at me drawing to appease you.

i drew this forever ago.

this is working through a few sketches in a book i got out of the library. i actually got out a bunch of books and am slowly working my way through them because i really can’t draw, [i’m really bad at depth!] but i would love to be able to!

for fun 🙂

also.. pretty!!

and my new toy!!!! [wow, i seem to be getting lots of these lately, too fun!] the instax mini 7s!!

and test pics. ❤
