5 Question Friday

1. Do you know how to play a musical instrument?

Yup. I played the trumpet in high school and I still play, and I’m self-taught on the guitar (just the campfire-type player, with chords). And like my BFF , I can play Mary Had a Little Lamb on the piano. 😉 But, ya know, I can also do Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star, lol! And there are a whole host of brass instruments I could play fairly easily. At some point, I’m getting a bass guitar and I’m going to learn that. I’m actually in the market for one if you wanna sale me a really super cheap one. 😛

2. What is your pet peeve while driving?

I don’t actually have one. I incessantly chatter at things when I drive, lol, but there are no emotions attached to it.

3. Would you rather have a housekeeper or unlimited spa services?

Housekeeper. Spas never appealed to me.

4. Is there a song that you hear that will take you back to the moment, like a junior high or high school dance?

Um, yes, how about every single song from those time periods? Like, my whole life is by song, man. But where’s the fun if I don’t name some? Let’s see..Never Had a Dream Come True by S Club 7 reminds me of Prom, senior year. Truly, Madly, Deeply by Savage Garden and Masterpiece by Atlantic Starr were songs I danced with guys to. A host of BSB songs make me think of my friend, Amber. (Sorry, Hollie.) Dave Matthews Band, Third Eye Blind, Matchbox 20, Sugar Ray, Blink 182, all make me think of random moments/people. There are a bazillion songs that connect me to marching band trips. Smashing Pumpkins’ Today makes me think of band camp freshman year. Ha, then there’s the Thong Song.. Usher makes me think of roller skating in middle school, oh and Waterfalls by TLC makes me think of a middle school dance. OMG, Iris by the Goo Goo Dolls makes me think of EVERYTHING. lol

5. What song best represents your life right now?

I don’t know if it represents my life, but my favorite songs right now are all by The Weepies. Oh, and Crazy Bitch by Buckcherry, hahahaha!!

snowball stand

at the end of may, Sam and I went for a drive and ended up near Woodstock, Maryland, which is maybe 20 miles from where we live. We had some fun playing on the railroad tracks.

we also came across a biker bar and across the street from it was a trail head with horses tied up in front.

But the coolest thing was the Snowball Stand.

They have flavors like mango, hawaiian punch or guava. If you like their Facebook page, you can see their flavor of the day. But, what’s really kind of cool is what I got – their Snickers snowball. It was a chocolate snowcone with ice cream type toppings on it, like whatver is in Snickers, uh, caramel, chocolate chips, etc. You can get a scoop of ice cream and snowcone together. They have this with other candy bars and stuff like blueberry cheesecake. I think I even saw chocolate raspberry, where you get a scoop of chocolate ice cream inside of a raspberry snowcone – I think this is what I’ll be trying next.

monday, monday

Happy belated Father’s Day. Here’s a picture of me and my daddy. 🙂 Aren’t we awesome and ridiculous looking?

The weekend was great. 🙂 We slept in way too late on Saturday and kinda killed the day but I did get to go pick out some fabric for the first two projects in the RVA Summer Camp, so hopefully I will do those this week!

(warning: being facetious – really, I promise.)

It was amazing that I managed to get the fabric though considering the super duper traumatic experience I had. I’ve actually never bought fabric before, I’ve actually never even been in a fabric store, so I had no idea what to do. I didn’t know how the fabric was sold, how to get your portion of it, where to go/what to do. So, I asked a sales lady how the fabric was sold, i.e. by the yard or what (since I did manage to notice it was priced by yard) and she laughed and teased me and told me that I should go take sewing 101! [I get teased everywhere..] Then she told me that it was by the yard. I’m not sure she understood my question though, so I’ll ask it here – is it possible to get amounts outside of 1, 2, 3 etc. yards? Can I ask for, say, 14×14 in. of fabric? Is this a stupid question, lol?

Anyway, after her making fun of me, I still didn’t know how to actually purchase the fabric, so I stood around for an insanely long time watching other people. Meanwhile, my husband is telling me I’m a big chicken and laughing his face off at me. And he refused to help! He was like “blah blah, it’s bad enough I’m in a girly store, so you’re doing it!” Ha, this from the man who writes poetry & knew, way before I did, that those red papery thingies, not the metal ones, you use to file your nails down are called emery boards.

So, I finally figured it out. And in case you’re inept like me, and you would like to know how it works, this is how it went down.

Step One: Stare at all the pretty fabric. Become completely overwhelmed. Have husband along with you that makes fun of you non-stop. Call all the people you know who can possibly be of any help or knows someone who could be of help. Have NONE of them answer their phones, despite the fact that everyone and their moms have their cell phones on them at all times. Alternate between laughing hysterically and aimlessly wandering the aisles wondering if you have enough guts to ask questions. Strongly consider leaving without anything. Oh yeah, you’re still trying to figure out what you want. [Step One will take 10-15 minutes if you’re someone normal. At least an hour or two if you’re me.]

Step Two: Pick up the fabric you have decided on, including the little cardboard thingy it’s wrapped around. That’s right, the WHOLE thing. You look stupid and it seems like that can’t possibly be it, but seriously, it’s the whole thing you take.

Step Three: Find the counter marked “customer service” or “cutting counter” or some such thing. If you’re lucky, you’ll see other people doing this before you, and you’ll feel less retarded.

Step Four: (I think this varies.) Find out if you have to take a number, and well, go take your number. Also, 30 minutes ago was a good time to note if they call your number over the store speaker or not to know whether or not you can go wander off and do something else while you’re waiting.

Step Five: Tell them the amount you want. They’ll cut it up right there and fold it up and put a little post-it on it listing the price so you can take the thing up to the register. You don’t pay for it there.

Step Six: Finish shopping!

Step Seven: Screw this crap & buy those little 18×21 inch fabric quarter-square-thingies instead. You don’t really need to make anything bigger than that, right? 😉

[Also, if anyone wants to fill me in on PROPER words for things, feel free. But, I’ll probably continue using “thingy” and “some such” and “stuff” anyway.]

30 day journal challenge: days 2-4

i can’t believe it’s friday. this week went by so fast and i didn’t blog anything and i am so bad. yell at me, now!

also, i have mad plans of squirting my husband with the hose tonight, mostly because he hates stuff like that.

anyway, so, i already did prompt one, but i had a favorite part of it and so i traced it out and onto another page and i like it a lot better now. *shrugs* that’s how it goes, i guess. i still like the first page but this little corner makes me happier! i want to take this part and make 100 things with it. i’ve never been so proud of something i’ve made before! 🙂 and i didn’t copy anyone, as far as i know (i sure hope not) and i just did it and i liked it. that’s exciting!

day 2 prompt: What is the BEST part of your day?

day 3 prompt: It’s always nice to share with someone why you love them. Today, I want you to draw a picture, doodle, sketch, of a person who you love, or admire. Then, write that person a letter telling them why they mean so much to you!

day 4 prompt: What does your heart look like?

30 Day Journal Challenge: Day 1

The first prompt was: Create a full page design introducing yourself. Highlight your name many times in the midst of your design.

I finished yesterday’s prompt today because it took me an insane amount of time to do. I should be embarassed at how long it takes me to doodle, haha.

I’m pretty happy with it except for the bird. I’m annoyed that I colored it in, because it looked better uncolored. I think I want to take the bottom left-hand corner, from the arrows to the x’s and create something with that, like a painting. That’s my favorite part. Also, I tried to make it look like the bubbles turned into raindrops and hearts, and then hearts into birds. Did it work?

happy friday!

happy friday! 🙂 my brother graduated high school last night. tomorrow is his party, so yay swim party this weekend!

i’m getting ready to start a whole bunch of new things. what fun things are you doing right now? (you know, my two readers!)

the class is over, but i’m still working on RVA’s Tell Your Story class.

Sign-ups for this end very soon, but Monday starts the RVA Summer Camp, which I am really excited about, because since I am pretty new to crafting, this will be a fantastic jump start!

and sign ups for this is over, but I am doing Craftaholics Anonymous’s Christmas in July swap! 🙂 I know what I am planning on making and after it’s all over, i’ll share it here.

and.. an awesome photo swap where you use up a whole roll of film and then send it to someone else to develop and keep.

and finally, the 30 Day Journal Challenge, which starts on monday. i’m hoping to make this a more simple journal than the Tell Your Story class, and possibly keep it to just pens. we’ll see! (though, i am interested in trying out some much more complicating styles than that class as well, more involving painting and a lot of techniques, but that will come!)

postcards

i was going to wait to post postcards until i had access to my scanner again (when the printer is out of ink, it won’t let us use the scanner!) since taking pictures of postcards is impossible, but since that hasn’t happened yet..

i got this one today via sendsomething.net & i think it’s my very favorite! lol

and this one was from a penpal i got from indie fixx’s penpal project.

the rest of these are from all over the world via postcrossing.
