parental responsibility? nah.
You will have ignore the geek-tone of this article, but..
This is the particular part of the article that I like. I am quoting Jeanne Stevens, Republican candidate for the Connecticut legislature.
Parents need to start parenting! You are the adult. You are responsible for what happens within your home. If you don’t like the content of a t.v. show, game, book, etc., don’t allow it in your home – that is your choice – you get to be the legislator, you make the laws of your home. Don’t abdicate that responsibility to the government. Exercise your own common sense – way back when, I enjoyed listening to Howard Stern on my commute to work – if he was getting too raunchy for my tastes, I changed the dial – and, I never listened to him if my kids were in the car.
Indeed. That’s all I have to say to that.

This totally reminds me of the time I got a call from a woman who wanted to report that her eight year old son was hitting her. Upon my arrival, after her telling me this, I asked her why she wasn’t in the house right now kicking his little ass! I told her that I would even stand there and watch (and probably snicker) so that he wouldn’t think he could just call the popo.
What was incredibly disconcerting was that when she spanked him, he just looked up at her with a look of disdain like “whatever”. I couldn’t resist, I asked her if I could have a turn and then the kid started to realize the error of his ways. (I didn’t really take a turn but he thought I was going to)
Parents need to be parents.

June 8th, 2008 at 1:48 pmYep, but it’s just one example of a huge problem with parenting today. Everybody is afraid of disciplining their children
June 8th, 2008 at 7:36 pmI also liked the follow-up quote concerning GTA:
I particularly liked the last sentence. I’ve seen too many people who want their say not only in how their own kids are parented, but how other people’s kids are parented too.
