birthday

My birthday was on Saturday, the 13th and I turned the big 2-5. That’s right, as everyone has reminded me, this is an entire quarter of a century. And, as my husband has reminded me, he doesn’t turn twenty-four until next March.

I’m fond of being 25 though. I think it’s an exciting age and a good number, but apparently, it’s not good enough to be on balloons. I think this is ridiculous. I mean, like the age of 16, 18, and 21, it is a milestone. I can now, finally rent a car without insane fees! Well, except, apparently, you have to own a credit card in order to rent a car– not a bank debit card, but a credit card– and of course, I don’t, so maybe this milestone isn’t that great. I still want balloons.

So, it wasn’t that much of a milestone but at least my friends threw me a huge party and I hit up the clubs, got really drunk, got my nose pierced, and I’m pretty sure some guy named ‘Mac’ hit on me. And, by all of that, I mean I went to the campgrounds at a river and had a campfire with my husband, in-laws, and brother-in-law. We chit-chatted and ate some good food. I got shishkabobs and smores out of it, two mean games of Pig/Horse/whatever, some quality swinging and see-saw time, and a yummy smokey hoodie to sniff when I miss it all, because I will.

Now the best part: gifts. I got two really beautiful necklaces and earrings to match one of them. I also got a CD– Mercy Me’s original album, which is great since I actually don’t have that one. I have two others though. I’m still awaiting another present, in fact, I’ve been jumping up and down the entire day in anticipation. According to UPS, it’s floating somewhere around this city right this second, yet it’s still not at my door. They have less than an hour; I think they’re doing it on purpose. My husband seems to think he can trick me and I don’t know what is coming. But, I know for sure that I’m getting a Canon A560 digital camera. I pretty much picked out the camera myself. It’s supposed to be one of the very best in this [cheap] price bracket, and it’s my first real digital camera, so I’m excited. (Yes, I’m behind the times.)

Sunday was fairly relaxed; it was full of left-overs on our really tiny gas grill, and a nice walk around our neighbourhood. It’s finally dropping temperature here, and I’m hoping leaves will change colour soon. In my opinion, it’s finally tolerable outside, so I’m pretty excited about that. Fall and winter are my favourite seasons, with both having their own unique things I love– fall’s beautiful leaves, cool weather, Halloween feel, football season, apple cider (and of course my birthday) and winter’s snow, hot chocolate, fire places, snowman, crisp air, Christmas. I could definitely do without summer and spring, and alternate between fall and winter. It’s a shame that I’m now living in a state that has a very late fall, almost no fall, and the definition of “snow” is “one flurry– oh my god, chain up the tires and buy all the bread and milk!”

All in all, it’s been a good few days. I’m glad.
