B07 #19: Speaking of Storms…

There was the biggest crash of thunder I have ever heard, and it looked like the lightning struck a few blocks over…

The best thing to do on a stormy day is to cuddle up under lots of blankets and read a book. I think a lot of people have a “comfort” book. I don’t tend to reread books, because I think there are so many out there– why reread ones I’ve already read? I tend to hoard them, instead, and try to read as many as I can. I’ll never have enough time in my life to read everything I want to read, sadly.

But, if you have a comfort book, what is it? Why is it your comfort book?

I read A Tree Grows in Brooklyn by Betty Smith, Interpreter of Maladies by Jhumpa Lahiri, and Saint Maybe by Anne Tyler about once every other year.

I read so much for my blog and my job that sometimes pleasure reading just seems like work. But never with these three books. It sounds like an insult to call them “palette cleansers,” but that’s kind of what they do.

I’ve been reading all three of them for years now, and it’s always a pleasure.

Even if I haven’t read them 100 times, I still consider “Jane Eyre” and “A Prayer for Owen Meany” to be my ‘go to’ books.
